"I have Portuguese Water Dogs who were natural retrievers. But in water work, they are sometimes required to take an article and move away from me while continuing to hold the object. While working on this, it became clear that my dogs did not understand how to continue holding an object until given a command to release. They were fine when bringing something to me, but taking an object away was harder for them. So I worked with Erica on these exercises to build their understanding of hold duration. It not only has helped with their willingness to take an object and leave me while holding it, but increased their ability to deliver to hand cleanly."
